Sweden’s Essity has invested in an Andritz-supplied combustion system upgrade on its PM2 TAD machine at its plant in Prudhoe Mill, England.
The completed upgrade included the installation of new equipment including a new gas valve train as well as a new burner management system for electronic control of the air/gas ratio to optimise the combustion process over the entire burner output range.
The supplier said this will increase burner performance while reducing gas consumption by up to 4%, adding that CO2 and NOx emissions will also “be considerably reduced, and safety improved.”
Lee Mc Donald, Project Engineer at Essity’s Prudhoe mill, said: “Our close cooperation with Andritz Novimpianti has enabled a smooth and quick start-up of the upgraded combustion system.
“With this upgrade we have not only optimised the performance of our burners but also made our operations safer and more sustainable.
Essity has five manufacturing sites throughout the UK.
