Putney Paper Mill is to close its site in Putney, Vermont, ending more than 200 years of production.

The mill along with the converting plant on Kathan Meadow road, will close operations, with a loss of 127 employees.

Rob Baron, President of Soundview Vermont – which acquired Putney Paper Mill in 2012 – said that the paper manufacturing division will close immediately, while the paper converting division will remain open until the end of the first fiscal quarter of 2024.

He added that the closure is due to high energy costs in the region, which have proven unsustainable despite efforts to keep the plant operational.

Putney Paper mill produces parent rolls of tissue made from 100% recycled paper.
