Northwood Hygiene Products has announced the closure of its Penygroes, UK-based tissue converting facility.

Located in North Wales, the proposed closure will affect 94 staff.

A spokesperson for the company told TWM that the site’s production will be absorbed at its other UK-based sites in Telford, Oldham, Birmingham, Lancaster and Bromsgrove.

It added: “The move is part of a strategic review of business operations following the current rapidly changing landscape and market conditions.”

Northwood said that various alternative options were considered but added that “contraction in market demand as a consequence of Covid-19, and the subsequent significant fall in current and forecasted sales volumes” led to the decision.
