Essity confirms the strategic review of its Consumer Tissue business is “still ongoing”

Essity has confirmed the strategic review of its Consumer Tissue business is “still ongoing”, as it evaluates all strategic alternatives to create the best conditions for the division and group.

A spokesperson for the company said to TWM: “The strategic review of Essity’s Consumer Tissue business is still ongoing.

“Our focus is on evaluating all strategic alternatives with the aim of creating the best possible conditions for the Consumer Tissue business and the group to develop to their full potential and maximise value creation.”

Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported that Essity was preparing to start the sales process for its Consumer Tissue division “as soon as next month”, and that companies and private equity firms will be invited to bid.

Essity announced the strategic review of its Consumer Tissue business in May 2026, in a move it said “will evaluate different alternatives that may lead to separation, although no such decisions have yet been taken.”

Essity includes toilet paper, household towels, handkerchiefs, facial tissues, moist tissue and paper napkins under brands including Lotus, Tempo, Zewa, Cushelle, Plenty, Regio and Familia.

It also produces consumer tissue for retailer’s own brands and private label.

In Consumer Tissue, Essity is the market leader in Europe and the second largest player in Latin America.
