Irving Tissue has announced a $600m expansion project to install a third TAD tissue machine as well as additional converting lines and a fully automated warehouse at its plant in Macon, USA.

Once up and running the investment will increase the plant’s annual TAD capacity by 75,000 tonnes, the equivalent of 15m cases.

Total annual capacity at the Macon plant will now be 225,000 tonnes, the equivalent of 45m cases.

Irving Tissue’s Macon site produces ultra-premium quality household paper products, including soft bath tissue and high-quality paper towel.

President Robert K. Irving said: “I am very pleased to announce our phase three expansion at Irving Tissue Macon.

“The $600m investment will add another 100 jobs to the current 400-strong team and will include a third ThruAir Dry paper making machine, additional converting lines, and a new fully automated warehouse.”

He added that in addition of the growth in Macon, the investment will also “provide growth in our home region of northeast North America – Maine and New Brunswick.”

Pulp will be supplied from the company’s pulp mill in Saint John.

Irving Tissue produces premium household store brand paper products for many North American retailers, as well as its own tissue brands.

It is part of Irving Consumer Products, a leading North American manufacturer of household paper and baby diaper products, including Royale products in Canada and Scotties Facial in the United States.
