Walter Schalka is to step down from his role as the President of Suzano and be succeeded by João Alberto Abreu, who is leaving the Presidency of Latin America’s largest logistics operator Rumo.

Schalka has spent the last decade in the role and will step down on 1 July 2024. He  will be nominated for a seat on the company’s board of directors.

Abreu has been President of Rumo for five years and will now step down to take on the new position at Suzano.

Suzano has also confirmed it has nearly completed the start-up of its R$22.2bn Cerrado Project – a new pulp mill in Ribas do Rio Pardo in Brazil – which is due to start operations in June.

Once up and running the pulp mill will produce 2.55m tons of pulp a year, increasing the company’s market pulp installed production capacity to 13.5m tons a year.

March pulp price hike

Suzano has announced a new increase for its hardwood pulp price list.

Asia will see an increase of +$30/ton. Europe will see an increase of +$80/ton, bringing European prices to $1.300,00/ton.

North America will see an increase of +$80/ton, bringing North American prices to $1,490.00/ton.
