The Fife, Scotland-based Sapphire Paper Mill will start-up a 60,000tpy TM in Q2 2024

UK-based Fourstones Paper Mill is to increase its production capacity to over 60,000tpy after investing in a paper machine at its Sapphire Paper Mill in Fife, Scotland.

The paper machine was delivered in September and is equipped with a Crescent Former, a Fabricated Steel Yankee Cylinder and a High Temperature Drying Hood, which has a trim width of 2.75m and an operating speed of 1,700m/min.

The civil and infrastructure works have now been completed and the paper machine
installation began in October 2023, with commissioning scheduled for Q2 2024.
Managing Director, Peter Duxbury, said: “This marks the largest single investment in the company’s history, demonstrating our firm commitment to expanding the business and establishing a strong foundation for its future growth”.

He added the business anticipates that the new machine will increase paper production capacity on the site to 60,000 tonnes annually.
It will primarily produce virgin toilet tissue and towel grades for the consumer and AfH markets.

The company declined to disclose the name of the tissue machine supplier at this time.
