Portuguese tissue producer Renova has invested in a Toscotec-supplied complete rebuild of its PM6’s Yankee Hoods and air system at its facility in Torres Novas.
Planned for 2024, the scope of supply includes a high-efficiency, gas fired TT Hood-Duo system delivering a uniform Cross Direction (CD) moisture profile.
Toscotec will supply TT Swing and TT Drying Equilibrium for optimal energy efficiency in the drying section.
The supplier also said the upgrade will deliver gas consumption reductions exceeding 25%, which “will significantly bring down carbon emissions and increase machine runnability.”
An additional optimisation of the drying capacity of PM6 will be delivered by Toscotec’s Burner Management System, which the company said reduces gas consumption by automatically controlling the air-to-gas ratio in the burners.
With a view to future implementations, the new air system features low-emission burners designed for both natural gas and hydrogen in percentages of up to 100%.
The system is also designed for the future installation of electric heat exchangers to heat up the process air with either 100% natural gas or 100% electricity or a combination of the two.
Renova said: “Toscotec offered an advanced technological solution for energy savings and carbon reduction for PM6.
“With this important upgrade, Renova aims to take a step further in its continuous efforts to upgrade its technology to ensure minimal environmental impacts and a careful and rational use of energy and resources.”
Renova operates two production facilities and a logistics centre in Torres Novas, and a third production unit in Saint-Yorre, France.
