Production boost: MP hygiène’s tissue mill in Annonay, France

France’s MP hygiène has invested in a second Toscotec-supplied AHEAD 2.2 tissue line at its plant in Annonay.

Supplied on a turnkey basis, PM2 has a sheet trim width of 2,8m, a design speed of 2,200m/min and a capacity of 38,000tpy. Start-up is scheduled for 2024.

The scope of supply includes Toscotec’s latest design shoe press TT NextPress and TT SYD Steel Yankee Dryer.

Toscotec’s high efficiency TT Hoods are equipped with both natural gas fuelled burners and electric heaters.

According to the supplier, the air system is designed to offer three efficient operation modes: gas-heated, electrically heated and a combination of the two, to ensure maximum flexibility in the choice of energy sources based on availability, cost, and carbon footprint. It added that when in full electrical configuration, MP hygiène will “eliminate the direct carbon emissions linked to the hood drying process.”

“This AHEAD 2.2 will be the first high speed machine in the tissue industry to feature an entirely electrical air system with three stages of heat recovery,” Toscotec said.

Founded by the Miribel family in 1965, today MP hygiène operates four facilities in the Ardèche department in southern France, including the Annonay Pupil paper mill which has a total manufacturing capacity of 60,000tpy of paper refills for the professional market, round products including hand towels rolls, industrial rolls, toilet paper, and flat products such as hand towels.

PM2 is Toscotec’s second turnkey supply to MP hygiène, following PM1 that came online in 2012.
