(News from RISI) – China’s Sun Paper has started up a new 60,000tpy tissue PM at its flagship mill in Yanzhou city, Shandong province.

The Andritz unit, dubbed PM27, has a width of 5.62m and a design speed of 2,000m/min.

It is the company’s first foray into the tissue sector. Civil engineering work started in August 2013 and the machine installation commenced in January.

The PM has a 2-layer headbox including dilution control, a Steel Yankee dryer with a diameter of 18 feet and a heat recovery system.

The unit is also equipped with a 5.62 m-wide rewinder provided by A Celli.

Sun Paper started its tissue converting lines last year and soon after launched end products on the domestic market.

A second identical tissue PM is scheduled to come online at the Yanzhou site in early 2015.

UFP unit rebuilt: Sun Paper is also modifying its PM16, an uncoated fine paper (UFP) unit with a capacity of around 90,000tpy, so as to make film base paper.

The overhaul will cut the firm’s UFP capacity – around 740,000tpy – by 12%.

Sources reported that the rebuild started last month and is going to wrap up in the fourth quarter.

PMP Group has been signed up to supply a hydraulic headbox for the project.

The PM, with a trim width of 3.52m, will be able to make film base paper in the basis weight range of 140-250g/m² at a rate around 150,000tpy.

Sun Paper is currently making the grade on another 150,000tpy PM, and a contact from the firm said that the output has been well received on the market.

The grade can be processed into disposable containers for food, such as paper cups.
