Essity has closed the remaining 30,000tpy TAD tissue manufacturing production at its facility in Tawd, UK.
The mill’s production was converted at the company’s nearby Manchester plant into branded and retail brand consumer tissue products.
As of 1 September 2024, the converting site is now supplied with TAD paper from Essity’s integrated tissue plant in Manchester and also from the company’s Prudhoe site.
Essity had already shut down the smaller of the two paper machines at the Oakenholt plant in spring 2024.
The company said the decision to close the site was based on changes in demand, and the need for investment at the facility.
Essity is currently modernising its 94,000tpy Prudhoe plant, including an Andritz-supplied modernisation of the combustion system on a TAD tissue machine which has been completed.
Construction of a £30m recycled fibre facility at the Prudhoe mill is on track for completion in the second quarter of 2025.
