“This new rewinder line will support our growth in the international markets as a leading manufacturer of premium quality tissue,” Paulo Santos, Mill Manager at The Navigator Company’s Aveiro tissue mill

Portugal’s Navigator Company has invested in a Toscotec-supplied OPTIMA 1800 slitter rewinder to be installed at its Cacia plant in Aveiro, Portugal.

Start-up is planned for the second half of 2024 and the line will be equipped with tension and nip control for high quality winding.

It will process close to 2,800mm width parent reels using two unwind stands.

Paulo Santos, Mill Manager at The Navigator Company’s Aveiro mill, said: “This new rewinder line will support our growth in the international markets as a leading manufacturer of premium quality tissue.”

The scope of supply will also include the associated roll handling and trim removal system designed to feed the rewinder’s trim paper back to the tissue machine to maximise fibre savings across the entire production line.

The Navigator Company is an integrated producer of forest, pulp and paper, tissue, and energy.

It operates four facilities in Portugal: Cacia, Figueira da Foz, Vila Velha de Ródão, and Setúbal, and has an annual production capacity is 1.6m tons of paper and 1.5m tons of pulp, of which roughly 80% is integrated into paper production.
