NUQUL GROUP TO BUILD CONVERTING PLANT IN IRAN
(STORY CONTRIBUTED BY RISI)

The Nuqul Group plans to build a new converting facility in Qazvin Industrial Estate, about 120 km west from Tehran, Iran. The plant is set to cost some $18 million. The firm has chosen the equipment suppliers and project consultants, but their names are under wraps for the moment. Construction is set to kick off this month with startup to follow in December. The facility will be ready for commercial production by mid-March 2008. The plant will house six converting lines, which will be able to produce annually up to 1,800 tonnes of facial tissues, 165 million diapers, 57 million adult diapers, 204 million sanitary napkins and 24 million toilet rolls. The plant will run eight hours/day after startup, but the Nuqul Group hopes to run at full capacity if there is sufficient demand.

The raw material will mainly come from the group's mills and non-woven plants. The output will be sold in Iran and exported to surrounding countries like Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The Nuqul Group, headquartered in Amman, Jordan, operates four paper plants, Al Keena and Al Snobar in Jordan as well as Al Bardi and Al Sindian in Egypt.
