WRAP RAGE SOLUTION
SEALED AIR, leading global supplier of packaging products and machines, has teamed
up with Sealstrip Corporation to exclusively promote a number of revolutionary
'easy open' solutions for shrink packaging. These comprise two distinct solutions,
Shrinktape® and Peelwrap®, which were developed to make the opening
of even the most diverse packages simple and safe.
There is an increasing demand for easy open packaging, especially in the mature
age group and the baby boomer segments of the global population. In a recent
survey on packaging, 71% of those questioned reported that they had injured themselves
trying to get into a packaged product. Many responded that they often do not
buy a product because of the difficulty of opening it. Moreover, the number one
complaint about packaging is, "it's too hard to open".
According
to Sealed Air, its products are “easy open packaging
solutions [that] are user friendly. They provide a clearly
marked opening area, eliminating frustration and ultimately
enhancing the consumer's experience. Easy open saves time and
reduces waste. It protects the inside product from improper
opening methods which reduces the number of returned ‘damaged
while opening’ products. Easy open packaging is tamper
evident and promotes a safe opening method. It is enhancing
brand recognition and distinguishing product from its competition.

and repeat sales.”
Offered by Sealed Air throughout Europe and the Middle East, both Shrinktape® and
Peelwrap® solutions comprise a tape which is affixed on shrink film as part
of the end of line packaging process.
Shrinktape® is a pressure sensitive narrow tear tape with pull tab and is
mostly aimed at products for which the tape does not interfere with package graphics
allowing for product visibility such as DVDs, game boxes and confectionery, printed
papers, cards, etc. Complementary Peelwrap® is a wider and thicker tape with
a dry edge. It allows the complete removal of the shrinkwrapping even by those
wearing gloves due to their occupation, which makes it “incredibly user
friendly”, says a release from Sealed Air. Typical applications include
multi-packs, surgical kits, bakery items and magazine packaging.
They are both moisture resistant and freezer compatible which, amongst other
advantages, makes them very versatile for the food and non-food sectors.
The applicators for applying Peelwrap® or Shrinktape® can be retrofitted
to any Sealed Air Shanklin® packaging machine and other wrappers, from the
manual L-Sealer to the high speed flow shrink wrappers. The easy open solutions
are fully compatible with a wide variety of Sealed Air Cryovac® shrink films
that range from 10 micron to 32 micron gauge. In addition Sealed Air is willing
to test any other film with a customer's product. Peelwrap® and Shrinktape® in-line
systems are easy-to-operate therefore cost effective, the company says. Vic Fairhurst,

solutions eliminate the need for the consumer to use a sharp object to open packaging,
therefore reducing 'wrap rage' and any possible injuries from occurring. The
