Södra has increased the price of its softwood pulp price to USD 820 per tonne. The hike came into effect from 1 November 2012. In a statement, the company said the move was a result of “improved market balance”. It was unavailable to comment further at this time.

SCA has said it is committed to achieving FSC certification on all its Tork AfH products made from fresh fibre in North America by 2014. Currently all Tork products in North America are made from either 100% recycled fibre or from fresh fibre sourced from suppliers with Chain of Custody certification.

Kimberly-Clark is to appoint Michael Hsu as president, North America Consumer Products. Hsu joins K-C from Kraft Foods and succeeds Robert Abernathy who announced his intent to retire after more than 30 years with the company.

Shandong Dongshun Group has signed up Kawanoe Zoki to supply five new 16,000tpy tissue machines for startup in 2013 and 2014. According to the Japanese supplier, the units will all be 2.76m wide and will have a design speed of 1,000m/min. Four are to be installed at Shandong Dongshun’s mill at its headquarters in Taian city, Shandong province.

Ashland Water Technologies has increased the price of selected products within its portfolio of process and water treatment additives sold in North America by 15%. The price increase is being driven by higher raw material and other input costs. Guy West, vice president, North America, Ashland Water Technologies, said: “In light of the current cost environment, this action is necessary to enable us to continue providing industry-leading product support and value to our customers. We will continue to work in partnership with our customers to help mitigate these increases.”
