BUCKMAN
Booth 550
Buckman has created the MAGNOS™ product line of yankee coating chemicals specifically for the ATMOS premium tissue technology developed by our partner Voith. The key benefits are improved sheet transfer and uniform adhesion of the structured sheet to the yankee cylinder surface and finely-tuned creping control resulting in better machine runnability and premium tissue properties. In support of the MAGNOS chemistries, complementary products are available, including wet-end chemistry control, fibre-modification enzymes, Optimyze® enzymatic stickies control and fabric care, and process water treatment.

Buckman Laboratories introduces its new SELECT yankee dryer adhesive system, which provides coating optimisation never before achievable with other yankee dryer packages.

SELECT uses a relatively hard and robust hybrid first adhesive to provide uniform coating and superior yankee dryer protection plus high bond strength between the coating and the sheet at the doctor blade. A second soft rewettable coating is used to increase sheet attachment at the pressure roll. Buckman currently has a selection of adhesives to meet varying process demands.

Recently developed enzyme products Buzyme 2535 and 2523S were created specifically to condition the fibre–particularly virgin softwood fiber and recycled fibre–before it is refined. This treatment can improve bonding strength, enhance the refining process, and reduce expensive fibre use, as well as increase tensile, reduce porosity, and improve coating holdout.

KEMTEC SrL specialises in providing consultancy and solutions to chemical-related problems in papermaking processes, supplying chemical aids at the highest efficiencyto- price ratio.

The company is engaged in constant research to upgrade processes and its approach to customer plants is a strictly global one. We always look at the whole picture, trying to detect and fix root-causes of inefficiencies, in order to devise solutions as effective and convenient as possible.

Our aim is to successfully pinpoint actual sources of possible improvement, so as to optimise operating conditions while also avoiding undesirable side-effects. Therefore, chemical treatments are not offered just as partial or momentary solution of an imminent problem, nor as a replacement of an existing product with a simple countertype. That can also be done but, typically, we first study a paper mill's operating conditions, take into consideration current treatments and assess their viability. Most of the time we find treatments that can be fruitfully eliminated or replaced.

After our initial overview is completed, we then suggest changes aimed at improving performance and reducing expenses by supplying the best chemicals at the lowest cost. Contact us at kappa.ti@tiscali.it for your requests.

METSO PAPER
Booth 600
Tissue pressing is a critical process that is difficult to perform while trying to maintain important product properties. How can we preserve as much bulk as possible, uniformly, across the width of the web? Alternatively, how can we reach a higher dryness in order to reduce drying cost?

Tissue press technology evolution is directed toward improvement in final paper bulk and softness and the shoe press for tissue has been in commercial operation for some years. With this technology it is possible to achieve a bulk increase of about 10% compared to conventional one- introducing use of the longer shoe press nip against the yankee dryer shell has so far proven to be challenging to say the least.

Metso now introduces Advantage ViscoNip; a new technology for tissue pressing that provides a uniform nip load profile independent of the counter roll deformation complexity. One important advantage is the opportunity to run a wide range of nip loads while maintaining uniformity in the nip. It is also possible to change the profile nip curve to optimise the machine for bulk or dryness. Ask Metso about the successful Advantage ViscoNip commercial installation that is up and running today.

OMET SrL
Booth 850
One of the most important and delicate operations in napkin printing machines is changing rolls. In fact, the efficiency of the machine itself depends on the ability to limit waste as much as possible. To tackle the very heart of the problem, Omet has patented a special continuous unwinder that eliminates machine stops. This reduces waste caused by slowing down the machine to change the roll manually and then ramping back up to production speed.

A new unit was launched at Miac 2007 in Lucca. Dimensions of the new unwind unit are only slightly larger than those of a normal unwinder on a napkin machine: the advantage is that this will allow installation on existing production lines without any problems. Furthermore, the unit will be able to work on processing both tissue and non-woven materials. As shown in the graphic above, the Efficiency increase of the line and the associated rise in productivity, by using an Omet’s non stop unwinder, is about 15%, variable changing format and type of production.

PR FTECHNIK SERVICE, INC
Booth 775
Misalignment is a word that runs through every maintenance worker’s mind. Some of the issues caused by misalignment are: wrinkling; unplanned down time; unwanted paper tears; tracking issues; time and money. Still, preventive measures are often neglected. The Paralign®, is a new technology that stems from space navigation which uses three ring laser gyroscopes to map out the position of rolls in space and instantly produce a graphical report of the condition of the machine.

Conventional optical systems such as theodolites require a lot of time to perform a measurement. The necessary optical line of sight from the machine axis to the rollers to be measured can sometimes only be obtained by means of additional mirrors and prisms. The repeatability of measurements is thus limited or the measurement is even impossible.

Measurements with Paralign®, however, can be performed within a fraction of time compared to traditional measurements–indeed for all rollers to be measured as no optical line of sight from the machine shaft to the rollers is necessary. Consequently the time required to measure rollers within housings–eg yankee cylinder–is the same as for accessible rollers.

Older production lines in the tissue industry run many times faster today than they once did. At the same time, the market has also become very competitive. Therefore the repeated inspection of the alignment of rollers is a must in all production steps in the tissue industry.

RONCO GROUP
Booth 750
The Ronco Group has nearly three decades of experience in the tissue industry. With an eye to the ever changing market and new technologies, we continue to offer even more products and services to our customers. Not long ago we began offering the single ply core winder, an economically beneficial alternative to the two-ply and multi-ply core winders. The single ply process saves 17% in board costs and 88.5% in glue costs when compared to a two-ply core winder. The life of the saw blade is extended as well.

Along with the single ply core winder, we offer a standalone one-ply glue unit which is compatible with most core winders.

Not only do we manufacture machinery for the tissue converting industry, we offer industrial services to these facilities as well. We specialise in managing planned shutdowns for all types of paper machines. We have completed projects on time when manpower was short, completed projects days ahead of schedule, and we have one of the best safety records in the industry. For more information visit .
