MetsÄ boosts production
with B&B-MAF
Metsä Tissue is a dynamically growing
European consumer goods company that develops, produces and sells
tissue products and baking and cooking papers for private households,
industry, public institutions and business customers. Expansion
of the production capacity to cover the rapidly growing customer
demand was a precondition for investment in a new production plant
in the Metsä Tissue Group's Raubach factory. The
manufacturing firm B&B-MAF was able to successfully implement
this customer requirement with the supply of a packing machine
for the cardboard/film combination.
B&B-MAF supplied Metsä with a
user-friendly machine on which it could pack the pack sizes and
shapes tailored to the most varied markets and customers from
standard and industrial rolls (in film, in cardboard/film). The
standard rolls produced on a bandsaw come out of the saw in four
lines and before the packing process are already fitted as they
pass through with fitting plugs in the core of the sleeve on both
sides.
The attachment of the plugs should be mentioned
at this point in particular since this process had occurred at
a speed not achieved before. After subsequent shaping of the rolls
into packs, they are then given a bottom layer and a lid made
of corrugated cardboard and in the last stage welded together
and shrink-wrapped to make attractive sales packaging. At B&B-MAF
they refer to this as a 'sandwich' system.
Since the delivery of this complete film wrapping
machine, daily production
of 40,000 rolls of paper can leave Metsä's
Raubach factory produced
from this line.
At Metsä, packing machines from Hopsten
have been used for
years. A Rotamatic RC-V stationary multifunctional unit not only
takes care of the forming of centre-folded films into tubes but
then also welds the base overlap, pushes the end product into
the packaging as it passes and welds the end. The packing drum
is given its required rigidity in an energysaving tunnel. The
servomotor control ensures problem-free lowmaintenance operation
of the unit. This technology is supplemented with portal systems
for the bottom layer, product shaping and lid feed.
Product infeed at a controlled rate is included.
The left and right plugs are stored in a collection bin, taken
from it, correctly aligned and then pressed into the roll core
in two rows from above and below by means of a turntable system.
The control system rejects defectively pressed in
plugs so that visual inspections by operating staff are dispensed
with and a high level of product reliability is guaranteed.
B&B-MAF's main factory is in Hopsten, Germany.
It has a branch in
Green Bay, Wisconsin (USA) to look after customers in North America. TW
