Cost per 100 sheets to be posted
From December 2009 Australian supermarkets will be required to disclose the cost per 100 sheets of toilet paper under mandatory unit pricing rules. But a number of supermarket chains, including Woolworths, Aldi and Coles are opposing the scheme. They introduced their own approach last year, posting the cost per roll.
The Government rejects the retailers' argument that all toilet rolls are alike. It says there is no comparison between one roll with 200 sheets and another with 500 sheets. The retailers complain that the per-sheet approach takes no account of quality differences. Tissue World was unable to clarify how this would be different on a per-roll basis.
