PARALIGN® INERTIAL ROLLER ALIGNMENT

PARALIGN® is the first roller alignment system that uses inertial technology to measure roller parallelism. It is not restricted by optical limitations and therefore can achieve a complete survey of the modern day tissue machine regardless of line-of-sight issues or subjective human interpretation.

Traditionally, measurements of rolls that are enclosed for temperature reasons such as the yankee dryer are particularly difficult to access. Due to such limitations, a complete alignment check of the machine has been difficult to achieve and very time-consuming.

PARALIGN® is a handheld device that has three ring laser gyroscopes used to determine a roll’s relative position in space. The ring laser gyroscopes are oriented perpendicular to each other as shown in Figure 1 and measures three degrees of freedom: roll, pitch and yaw. To take a measurement, the device is placed on the roll and ‘swept’ over the surface for a minimum of 20 degrees producing an instant graphical representation of the results. In an eight-hour day, two service engineers are able to measure an entire tissue machine.
