In the two years
since Tissue World
Asia 2006, the Asian
tissue industry,
and in particular that of China, has boomed beyond anyone’s
expectations. Indeed, the exploits
of companies such
as Asia Pulp & Paper,
Hengan and others
almost defy beliefs,
so rapid has the
growth been. In these two years literally, dozens of new tissue
machines have started up and more are on the way.
With a remarkable
mixture of Western and Asian companies exhibiting, this year’s
Tissue World Asia 2008 exhibition promises to open the eyes of
visitors and locals alike, by giving all a chance to see what
can be achieved with modern technology, commercial drive and marketing.

ALGAS FLUID TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS AS

Originally used for
fibre recovery, application
areas have been extended to many others from treating filtrate
from screw presses, polishing the clear water from existing savealls
to a "super clear" quality
for safe re-use,
through to primary
effluent and bio-treatment areas. The high microfilter efficiency
helps allow the re-use of clear filtrate to replace fresh water,
thus reducing water consumption overall, with all the associated
savings in energy, heat and lower costs in chemical use and effluent
treatment.
With all associated savings, especially energy, the payback time
is generally around six months. Even for more complex projects,
when old equipment has to be removed, new piping runs added and
the filter installed, this is generally easily covered in one year
from total savings. A mill in Norway recently replaced flotation
with ALGAS microfilters on all three of their machines which resulted
in a payback time of one year and subsequent savings of $1 million/yr.
The compact size is very beneficial where space is limited. As
an example the holding capacity of an ALGAS microfilter is only
5% of that of a sedimentation basin for the same application duty.

Proprietary developments in cylinder design allow deeper embossing,
thanks to the use of pressures up to 80 kg/cm without flexing.
Rubber rolls are free from crowning, and roll deflection adjustment
is not required for steel rolls, nor is skewing. A cooling system
for rubber and steel embossing rolls can be integrated.
It is possible to change speed between the independently motorized
steel rolls, which allows the production of a wider range of finished
products. JOI features air pressure nip control without mechanical
stops. The glue station is designed for easy calibration.
Futura promises quick and easy roll change and maintenance to keep
downtime to a minimum. Roll dimensions have been reduced (400 mm
steel and 430 mm rubber), and there is a storage facility for rolls
on top of the unit.

Vaahto Pulp & Paper Machinery supplies the market with crescent
former tissue machines.
The machines use furnish from 100% deinked pulp to 100% virgin
pulp. The press section can be conventional onepress- roll-type,
two-press-rolls type, or shoe-press-roll type, according to the
application. The yankee cylinder diameter can be 3.6 m up to 4.6
m, machine speed in the range of 1200-1900 m/min, with different
design concept.

been an innovator in stickies removal since the advent of secondary
fibre. Our Pensolv L115C and Pensolv L805 break up the molecular
structure of a sticky and dissolve it. This considerably reduces
sheet holes. These Pensolv products are effective on the fly as

to encapsulate a sticky and carry it downstream. West Penetone
